WhatsApp released WhatsApp Web back in 2015. However, to use WhatsApp Web, users still need to have an active internet connection on their smartphones and keep their smartphones in the vicinity of their laptops and personal computers. But that might change soon as WhatsApp is working on adding multi-platform support to its platform.

What this means is that soon WhatsApp users will be able to use the same WhatsApp accounts on multiple devices. For better understanding, if you are accessing your WhatsApp account from your iPhone, thanks to the Facebook-owned social messaging app’s multi-platform system, soon you will be able to use the same account on your iPad and even your laptop. What’s interesting about this new system is that unlike WhatsApp Web, which requires an active internet connection on the source device, this new multi-platform system will not require users to have the smartphone or any other primary device in the vicinity of the secondary device. This means that users, when the system is launched, will be able to use their WhatsApp accounts even when their smartphones are turned off.

In addition to this, WhatsApp is also working on a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) that would allow users to use WhatsApp on their personal computers even when their phones are turned off.

WABetaInfo, the blog that tracks developments in WhatsApp, said that the company has started working on the two features but there is no timeline as to when these features will be available for public use.
