Rajya Sabha discusses J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2019
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday tabled the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in Rajya Sabha for consideration and passage.
The bill proposes to give reservation in educational institutions and government jobs to people living within 10 kilometres of the International Border in Jammu.
The Bill will replace the Ordinance promulgated in this regard.
The Home Minister informed the house that over 3.5 lakh students of 435 villages in border districts of Jammu and Kashmir will be benefited from the bill.
The Home Minister also moved a resolution in the Rajya Sabha seeking extension of President rule in Jammu and Kashmir for a further period of six months with effect from 3rd July 2019.
Moving the resolution and Bill, Amit Shah said that the government has no other option but to further extend President’s Rule in the state as the Election Commission wants to hold Assembly elections in the state by the end of 2019.
