South Africa batsman Hashim Amla has retired from all international cricket with immediate effect.

Amla played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is between 2004 and 2019. His 9,282 runs in Test cricket are the second most by a Proteas cricketer, after the veteran Jacques Kallis’ 13,206 runs.

He collected the country’s third-most runs in ODI cricket – 8,113 after former skipper AB de Villiers’ 9,427 and Kallis’ 11,550.

The 36-year-old will remain available for selection at domestic level.
