On Monday, Sri Lanka defeated West Indies by 23 runs in their World cup match.

Chasing a mammoth 339-run target, West Indies started their innings on a poor note. West Indies lost opener Sunil Ambrish for 5 runs.

Lasith Malinga castled Shai Hope for 5. Chris Gayle showed some resistance but his innings was cut short by Rajitha for 35. Nicholas Pooran revives West Indies innings and scored 118 runs.

But with his dismissal West Indies’ hopes ended and lost the match by 23 runs. Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 338 for 6 in 50 overs against West Indies at Riverside Ground in Durham.

This is Sri Lanka’s highest total in the ongoing World Cup 2019. Avishka Fernando scored his maiden hundred, which powered Sri Lanka to a huge total. He smashed 104 runs off 103 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes.

Efforts of Kusal Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne also added to Sri Lanka’s total. For West Indies, skipper Jason Holder was the leading wicket-taker with two wickets. Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas and Fabian Allen claimed one wicket apiece.
